Whitney Biennial, Jeff Koons, and The Gap

May 17, 2008 · 2 Comments

Since The Gap sponsored the Whitney Biennial this year they decided to make a profit (of course) and sell some artist edition t-shirts. People never get tired of graphic tees, it’s just one of those facts of life. Some of them are nice. Jeff Koons designed one. It’s appropriate somehow. I’m wondering if people who buy these limited edition shirts will even know the artist, or if they will even seek out more of their art. It’s really uncertain. I mean most people buy graphic t’s to look cool, or hip, not because they mean something. Truthfully. Here is a photograph of The Gap’s latest attempt at being hip and cool. I mean I guess they are kind of fresh, for graphic t-shirts.

Also, I had to edit this post. It was really angry and mean the first time around.

i’d love to be in my sixties and have acrued enough acclaim to be a part of the biennial and this sort of devastates my dream. but i wasn’t really bothered until i found the spread in the recent issue of W. Chuck Close and Barbara Kruger are in it, and that, plus Obama calling a journalist sweetie, and John McCain on SNL, has turned all my hair white.

honestly, I was so fucking pissed when I saw Andy Warhol’s face hanging in the front window of the store awhile back.
