excellent nyt article about audubon

a few weekends ago alicia and decided on a spontaneous trip to the local antique store in hampden. we spent about an hour cautiously going through every piece and we each bought eachother a little something for our one year anniversary that just passed. i gave her an old luggage type bag that she wanted and she gave me a beautiful john jay audubon print of blue birds.  i’ll post a picture of it below:

it’s really very pretty and i am so excited to have it and frame it. today i stumbled upon this great new york times article about audubon’s work. apparently he had stored them away for some time then went on a trip to come home and find them all destroyed by rats. very unfortunate. luckily for the rest of the world that didn’t stop him and he created some of the most beautiful bird prints ever. the article has an excellent slide show that i would look at. here are some of my favorites:
