I have been lovin the WPA posters from the 1930’s. I’m actually working on a project for one of my classes and these posters have been a huge inspiration throughout the process. I was not able to achieve the complete blocky/graphicy look but I was able to get close enough. Also thanks to fontstruct.com I was able to download some user created WPA fonts which are awesome! So glad I have them now.

Turns out the Friday before I move tons of really fun and interesting stuff will be happening. Alicia and I decided to keep it a relatively quiet night — I just wish all of this were happening the Friday after I move.  I do plan on checking out The Strand Theatre to see my friends Santina and Nikki do some Billie Holiday covers — and the extremely talented Theresa Columbus will be showing another one of her typically hilarious plays. And I figure since I’ll already be on the same block why not check out Jim Lucio’s opening at the Metro.  If anyone else is interested here’s a list of good times this Friday.

AGENDA is interested in how queer subjectivity informs, and is mediated by, evolving technology, the media, and our present state of collective (un)consciousness; the use, abuse, and critique of popular media; and the creation of autonomous spaces for play, discourse, and protest. Mining the formal and narrative conventions of film and television, as well as the experimental opportunities afforded by new media, printed matter, and so forth, an illusory architecture emerges where both identities and histories are fluid. Themes of marginalized desires, conceptions of celebrity, genesis and reinvention, reconciling the self through community, and the quandaries of visibility and voyeurism will be explored as the symptoms of immediacy precipitated by our digital age. By refitting the lens through which popular culture and media are viewed and re-calibrating the gaze, AGENDA will present new models of activism and representation, and seeks to document a unique moment in history when the collapse of public and private is expected, and surveillance spells opportunity.

This series of 20 embroidered text messages by Ginger Anyhow tell the story of a year long love / hate relationship. I think it has a happy ending as far as I can tell. You can decide for yourself here. I also recommend checking out the other various projects on display at the website.  Lately I have been a huge fan of art mixing with modern technology. It’s very accessible and it makes an interesting statement about the state of society.

Guess what? I will be making the trip to NYC to go to this. I have been waiting to purchase this book since it’s conception.  Here are the details for any other lovers of the Zoe — hope to see you there!

I don’t think it’s possible for me to love Zoe Strauss anymore than I already do.  If you know me you know I love her. So just watch this video of her talking about her work. here is a video of the wonderful ira glass talking about making stories and art. i love what he has to say about taste. he makes a lot of sense.

a few weekends ago alicia and decided on a spontaneous trip to the local antique store in hampden. we spent about an hour cautiously going through every piece and we each bought eachother a little something for our one year anniversary that just passed. i gave her an old luggage type bag that she wanted and she gave me a beautiful john jay audubon print of blue birds.  i’ll post a picture of it below:

it’s really very pretty and i am so excited to have it and frame it. today i stumbled upon this great new york times article about audubon’s work. apparently he had stored them away for some time then went on a trip to come home and find them all destroyed by rats. very unfortunate. luckily for the rest of the world that didn’t stop him and he created some of the most beautiful bird prints ever. the article has an excellent slide show that i would look at. here are some of my favorites:

dan funderburgh has created a beautiful limited edition letterpress print titled “census” it is printed on speckletone natural recycled archival paper and measures 13 by 20 inches. signed limited edition of 75 for only 30 dollars! if i weren’t moving in the very near future i probably would have not hesitated to buy this today. but since i can’t you should! oh yeah — and all proceeds from this print go to obama’s campaign. you totally cannot beat that!
